Highlife Music Legend, Mike Ejeagha Dies At 95.


A very well renowned Nigerian highlife musician and cultural figure, Mike Ejeagha, known for his popular song "Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo," has passed away at the age of 95. 

Mike Ejeagha hails from Imezi Owa, Ezeagu , in Enugu State. Born born on 4 April 1930 in Imezi Owa, Ezeagu, Enugu State. He started his music career at tender age as he was a member of the Ogene group alongside his friends.




According the report given by the eldest son, Emmanuel Ejeagha passed away on Friday night around 8:00 p.m. at the 32 Garrison Hospital in Enugu, after battling with a severe illness for a long time. 

The music icon and legend, Ejeagha was celebrated for incorporating Igbo proverbs and storytelling into his music and was a significant presence on Nigerian radio during the 1980s. 

In the year 1983 the classic "Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo" met a revival in 2024 as one the popular comedian and influencer, Chukwuebuka Emmanuel Amuzi, widely recognized as Brain Jotter, included the song in a viral dance challenge that engaged audiences on various social media platforms.


The music legend, Mike Ejeagha through his storyline in music made  bountiful impact and influence in the igbo music industry till date.
